Some other reviewers mentioned it being loud, and I don’t have any comparison to go by, but I don’t feel the sound it makes is excessive. But it does make a sound when it opens and closes. “In March 2021, my trash can set will be 2 years old. As of today, Nov 30, both are still working like new. The larger batteries last for months. My 18 year old son had to change the batteries in the large trashcan while his dad and I were on a trip. Instead of laying the lid upside down on a towel to prevent scratching….that though didn’t even cross his mind…he laid it upside down on a rough slate surface. Our island top is made of large squares of slate and they are a little rough. (Previous owner/builder thought of that move, not me. Can’t wait to replace it!) Needless to say, the lid got scratched…ugh! Replacement lids cost too much. Around $50 including shipping. Scratches aren’t too bad, but they’re obviously there. “This is a great deal for this product. It works perfectly. I went from a swing top garbage can to this. The lid can be a little tricky. It has to be kept clean for the unit to work properly. Every couple of days I clean it with a disinfecting wipe, especially around the sensor. It is a bit sensitive so if you get to close it will open. It contains the odor real well.
