There are many benefits to homeschooling; it gives parents freedom in choosing the curriculums and subjects their children learn. Remote learning also ensures their children are kept safe, away from potential dangers like bullying or viruses in public schools. It’s a win-win situation.

• There is one way to homeschool

• Children between 5-17 of age must be in school 

• You MUST notify your local school district of your intentions

Requirements:

• There are NO teacher qualifications

• There are NO state mandated subjects 

• There are NO required assessments or testing

• There are NO immunization requirements

How to Homeschool in Northern Mariana Islands

• Submit an application to the Commissioner of Education at least 60 days before you start homeschooling

• Include in the application:

1. Name, address, and telephone numbers of parents and students (and tutor if applicable)
2. Justification for the homeschool
3. Outline of how the home school will operate
4. Curriculum
5. Description and qualifications of parent-instructors or tutor
6. Police clearance for the past three years if using a tutor
7. Calendar and hour of instruction
8. Active tuberculosis records if using a tutor
9. Any other information that is requested by the Commissioner of Education

• Submit monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports on the progress to the Commissioner of Education

• Submit records of attendance yearly

• Submit goals of the homeschool to the school the student would have attended if she were enrolled in public school
