A Guide To Different Types Of Pens For A Variety Of Users

by Mirthell Onyx

You can find a pen literally everywhere – in drawers, offices, schools, in your purses or bags, used by everyone but for a variety of different uses. However, one can’t expect to use only one pen forever which is why it’s always a good option to buy and keep an entire collection.

Deciding on what pen to buy isn’t always as easy as it sounds. You have to take into consideration the brand, it’s point size, type of ink, color options and of course how it writes. It is not just simply choosing a random pen it affects your overall writing experience. Down below are some pens we have shortlisted for you:

Parker Jotter Originals Ballpoint Pen Collection

“This has been my favorite pen since grade school. I’ve used one all of my life, but had recently drifted away looking for something more modern, that may work even better. My feelings have been confirmed and I’ve concluded that the Parker T-Ball Jotter is simply the best ballpoint pen ever designed. It’s a pleasure to write with. It even makes me consider abandoning my iPad keyboard for writing and doing it all in long hand on a legal pad. A simple pleasure!” — Customer

BIC Round Stic Xtra Life Ballpoint Pen

“You know this pen. They’re in every hotel or motel you’ve been in. And, yeah, I know you’ve taken a few home with you. And I bet it still writes, too – just like their lighters! It wrote right out of the box, hasn’t bled, leaked or smeared, or stopped writing, then started again. You know what I’m talking about, right? You have to shake it and scribble in endless circles to get it to write? Not this pen. And they’re translucent, so you can see when it’s running out of ink.

“The only issue I have is that it’s too skinny for my grip, but I bought some nice silicone grips, problem solved. I’ll never buy another brand again! OK, I only used one so far, but I’m in love. I will amend my review if we ever break up! But I see many happy (paper) trails ahead for me and my BICs!” — Petey

Amazon Basics Refillable Fountain Pen

“Excellent value. Writes well for everyday hard use. Only two cons, and they aren’t worth taking off a star. First, like many good pens, you can store an extra cartridge in the barrel, but it rattles around, loudly, which is annoying. Second, the AmazonBasics marking on the clip is crass. Other manufacturers put their names there, sure, but c’mon. Still, I love that I can travel to different work sites with a great pen and not worry about losing a pricey pen. Hopefully, they’ll make them in different colors.” — Portia

uni-ball Vision Rollerball Pens

“This pack of Uni-ball Rollerball fine point pens are easy to write even as uncharacteristically on a paper towel. They’re easy to hold onto and have the right grip thickness. No need to shake one before you write. All you do is tract it and you get a nice smooth flow of ink that’s evenly settled on any kind of stationary paper, even if it’s course or thick in texture. I’m delighted with this set because after using my first pen, I noticed right away there weren’t any noticeable leaks, smudges or skips. Happily I don’t need to keep retracing over my words like my other gel pens I used previously. Love the fluidness it promotes and these pens will last for a long time until I need to reorder. These are a mainstay in my home and I know that I can depend on them for all my corresponding needs. Highly recommend!!!” — Isabel

Sharpie S-Gel Gel Pens

”These Sharpie S-Gel pens have quickly become my favorite pen. I’ve used a ton of various pens just like everyone else and even compared to the more expensive ones (such as Cross just to name one) this one writes so much better. It’s silky smooth, consistently dark, and the best part of all is that it doesn’t smear. I’m left handed and have an issue with smearing which has prevented from being able to use any kind of Gel pen but I don’t have that problem anymore with these. If you haven’t tried one of these yet, you just have to. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.” — Jason

PILOT G2 Rolling Ball Gel Pens

“I frikkin’ love these pens! I tend to find a lot of pens on the ground, but this one takes the cake! The one I found was the navy blue one. I love the way it writes. I don’t have to press down hard (or at all really) on the paper to get the ink flowing. When I write with it, it’s so smooth and writes seamlessly without all the tiny line breaks you get with regular ballpoint pens. After my navy blue G-2 ran out of ink, I bought a pack of 12 black G-2’s. They’re very nice, but I kind of miss the subtle blue of the navy blue pen, so I’m going to buy these pens in red, green, navy blue, and blue because I find that these colors are least likely to fade on paper over time. And I write a lot so I go through a LOT of pens!” — Phyl

Paper Mate Flair Felt Tip Pens

“This is an awesome notebook comparable to any expensive notebooks out there. It has everything I need. Pen holder, elastic closure, hard bound and back pocket. I would have wanted a thicker elastic closure but for the price I can’t complain. This is 120gsm so the pages are thick. I write with a fountain pen and it doesn’t bleed through. And did I mention the leather cover? It’s soft and feels like a real leather. I’ll be buying more of this in case I can’t find them anymore later. Forget the name brands. Get this one.” — A S De Vera

BIC 4-Color Retractable Ballpoint Pen

“I need the different colors to keep my patients’ information straight. Each color for a different patient and my system has worked very well. The colors are also more appealing than your normal 4 color pen which I like. I bought this pen over a year ago and am still on pen number one so I can confirm they also last a very long time.” — Customer

Tombow 62038 Fudenosuke Brush Pen

“Love these pens!! I just recently got into brush calligraphy and heard this brand was the best. I saw all the positive reviews and decided it was worth the $6 to try them. OMG they are fantastic! They are easy to use (if you can get the hang of going light on the upstroke and harder on the downstroke!) They write well and they got here just when they said they would. Honestly I don’t know that you can do better than this, everything about this purchase was absolutely worth it. I will be using them again and I hope this helps another person interested in this product!” — Racheal

Tombow 56621 Dual Brush Pen

“The pen arrived on-time, and it was not in its own wrapping when I took it out of the package, which I thought to be strange. I ordered the black colored pen, and it is amazing since I am using it for my bullet journal and lettering. The ink flow is consistent, and I enjoy that the pen gives you the option to alternate between a soft tip for lettering and a hard tip for more consistency. I did, however, expect the ink to be darker when it comes out, but it takes several layers to get something completely filled in dark. This is definitely an inexpensive option for those seeking to develop their lettering skills and have a quality pen in their arsenal!” — Eric
